Infomation

Picture
The pyramid of Giza is the biggest and oldest of three pyramids built and it is the only one that is one of the “7 Wonders”. It was said to have built as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu (or Pharaoh Cheops in Greek). The pyramid’s construction time too around 20 years and finished about 2560 BC, it was built at 145.75 meters (but over the years have had 10 meters fallen off it) and was the tallest man made thing for 3,800 years (which is the longest time to ever hold a record). It is the oldest of all the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World and the one that is most intact.

History

Picture
It took around a 20 year period to build the Pyramid, Pharaoh Khufu ordered for it to be built so he could be buried in it once he died. There are three pyramids in Giza, but the Great Pyramid is the biggest and the only one on the ‘7 Wonders’ list. The place was first prepared by moving blocks of stone and placing them. An outer casing (Which disappeared over the years) was used to smooth the surface. It isn’t known how the blocks were put in place. Three theories have been said. One theory says the construction of a straight or spiral ramp was raised as the construction proceeded. This ramp was covered in mud and water helped the displacement of the blocks that were pushed or pulled into place. The second theory suggests that the blocks were placed by a lever.

Chambers

Picture
There are 3 known chambers inside the Pyramid, the first chamber is the lowest it is cut into the bedrock that the Pyramid was built (and unfinished), the second and third chambers are higher up in the Pyramid, the names of these chambers are: The Queens Chamber and the Kings Chamber.

Description

Picture
The pyramid has around Two Million blocks of stone (each block of stone weighs more than two tons) It has been said that there are enough stones in the Pyramid to build a 3 meter high and 0.3 meter wide wall around France. The area covered by the Pyramid can fit St. Peters in Rome, the cathedrals in Florence, Milan, and Westminster’s and St. Pauls in London. On the north face of the Pyramid is the Pyramids entrance. A heap of corridors, galleries and escape shafts lead to either the King’s burial chamber (King’s Chamber) or were used for other functions. The King’s chamber is in the heart of the pyramid, the King’s sarcophagus is made of red granite and the walls of the chamber are made of the same. The only way to get to the King’s Chamber is to go through the Great Gallery. The stones in the walls of the Pyramid fit so well that you wouldn’t be able to fit a card in between them!
